Sulan Kolatan

Sulan Kolatan is the Principal of KOL/MAC LLC, an architecture and design firm she co-founded with William J. Mac Donald. She is currently Adjunct Professor at the School of Architecture at Pratt Institute. Her firm has been internationally acknowledged as a leader in digital architecture and technologically innovative design. She holds a MS in Architecture and Building Design degree from Columbia University and a Dipl.Ing. Arch. degree from the RWTH Aachen, Germany. She has taught at the GSAP at Columbia University from 1989-2005 and served as Acting Chair of the Department of Architectural Design and Building Technology at the Technical University in Darmstadt in 2002-03. In addition to serving as a Visiting Chair and Critic at a number of distinguished universities, she frequently lectures and speaks at academic and professional conferences nationally and internationally. KOL/MAC LLC has collaborated with and/or received support from many leaders in their respective fields including Corian and Sentry Glass of DuPont (USA), AI Implant of Biotech Industries (Toronto), Alias (USA), Merck Chemicals (Germany), Autodesk (USA), C-TEK (USA), ARUP Advanced Geometry Unit (UK) and others. KOL/MAC LLC continues to be shown and published worldwide, notably, at MoMA New York, USA (multiple); the Cooper-Hewitt Smithsonian Museum New York, USA; the Centre Georges Pompidou Paris, France (multiple); the Barbican Art Gallery London, UK; the Art Institute of Chicago; the Mori Contemporary Art Museum Tokyo, Japan; the 1st International Architecture Biennial Beijing, China; VITRA Germany. Sulan Kolatan has received numerous academic and professional honors and awards, including the “40 under 40″ award given every decade to the 40 best architects under 40 years. Most recently her Inversabrane project was nominated for the Zumtobel Environmental Award (Austria) and the INDEX Award (Denmark). In 2004 KOL/MAC LLC received the great honor to represent the United States at the International Architecture Biennale in Venice. KOL/MAC LLC projects are represented in the permanent collections of cultural institutions including the MoMA New York, the Centre Georges Pompidou Paris, the FRAC Orleans and the Architekturmuseum Frankfurt, Germany. She is a currently distinguished Juror selected by the Mayor of Istanbul for the following: International Urban Competition for Yenikapi Archeopark, National Architectural Competition for a new TV Tower and International Architectural Competition sponsored by ThyssenKrupp for an Education and Research Center for Natural Disasters, all in Istanbul, Turkey. Her work is in the permanent collections of premiere cultural institutions such as MoMA New York, Centre Georges Pompidou Paris, Architekturmuseum Frankfurt and others.

Carla Leitao

Carla Leitao is an architect, designer and writer that lives and works in New York, USA and Lisbon, Portugal. She is the co-founder, with Ed Keller, of AUM Studio in NY and Umasideia in Lisbon.She has taught architecture studios in several schools in the New York area, most recently in Pratt Institute and RPI.Practice and academic endeavors focus on convergences of Architecture/Design, Urban Phenomena, Ubiquitous Cultures, Digital Communication and the role of design in cultural and technological innovation.Publications include “4 Lines” (Akademie Schloss Solitude) and “City Fragments” (CBA),Projects include built and ongoing residential and institutional projects. Exhibitions and installations include “Suture” (SCI Arc and Tellic Gallery, LA), “True Romance” (Sttuttgart, Germany) and Young Blood in Lisbon, Portugal.

Orkun Beydağı

Ankara born. Studied undergraduate architecture in Istanbul Technical University (ITU) between 2004 and 2008. Graduating with an Archiprix honorable mention award with his thesis project, he took part in various architectural design offices, and continued his academic research in ITU master of architecture graduate program. He instructed two semester basic design course for pre-college and tutored various workshops. His work has been exhibited in some exhibitions like Resfest, Fibrous Room, Contrary Education. In 2010 he was awarded tuition scholarship by Turkish Education Foundation and studied in Pratt Institute, New York for Master of Science Architecture program. He worked on the thesis named “a (new) typology and topology of public space in the time of location based social networks” and graduated with excellence in academic achievement award. Also he worked as a design studio teaching assistant in the same school. With Kol/Mac he participated “peeling layers” augmented reality exhibition in ArtOmi. He is still working in Şanal Architecture and as adjunct instructor in Izmir University of Economics undergraduate architecture program.

Ali Derya Dostoğlu

Philadelphia born. After graduating from Galatasaray High School, he started his formation in undergraduate architecture at Ecole Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture de Paris-Belleville and finished his studies at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University in 2009, as first of his class. During his undergraduate studies, he worked as an intern architect at several architectural offices, including Mimarlar ve Han Tümertekin, Istanbul, EAA, Istanbul and Zaha Hadid Architects, London. He participated at several architectural and urban design competitions and won awards including the first project prize at the Chamber of Architects Bursa Section’s Building&Life Architectural Awards in 2010 (with Hamdi Dostoğlu). He was awarded Graduate Scholarship and Merit Based Scholarship from Pratt Institute, where he received a Master of Science in Architecture degree in 2011, as first of his class, graduating with Excellence in Academic Achievement and Pratt Circle awards. His work has been included in several exhibitions like Pratt Institute Green Week Exhibition and 2011 End of the Year Show. He worked as a teaching assistant at James Garrison’s sixth semester Architectural Design Studio, at the same institution. He took part of Garrison Architects in New York, between October 2010 and June 2011. He is currently working at Mimarlar ve Han Tümertekin in Istanbul, along with pursuing his PhD at Istanbul Technical University’s Architectural Design Program.
